What is Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT)?

Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) is a multi-layer flooring product. It has a photographic layer that replicates stone, marble, ceramic or concrete aesthetics down to the textures and grout line details. There’s also a waterproof core made from WPC (wood plastic composite) or SPC (stone plastic composite) that offers moisture resistance and dimensional stability. It easily installs using glue-down or floating methods. The protective wear layer withstands scratches and stains, while maintaining the tile aesthetic.

Benefits of Luxury Vinyl Tile

If you’re after a tile look, but want better performance, LVT is the way to go. It offers several advantages for your coastal home. Here’s why homeowners are continually choosing LVT:

1. Authentic Stone and Tile Appearance

Modern LVT makes it hard to tell the difference between this product and marble, travertine, slate, ceramic, porcelain or even concrete tile. Advanced printing captures everything, including natural color variations, veining patterns and other characteristics.

2. Waterproof Core

Luxury vinyl tiles have a waterproof core. That makes them perfect for bathrooms, kitchens and other moisture-prone areas. Meanwhile, water penetrates the grout lines of other tiles, damaging the subfloors. Other options require sealing. Spills, splashes, humidity and standing water aren’t problems.

3. Warmer, Softer and Quieter Than Hard Tile

Traditional tile is cold underfoot, especially Florida homes with the AC cranked. Waterproof luxury vinyl tile is cushioned and feels warmer and softer on bare feet. It reduces fatigue when standing for long periods and dampens sound transmission between floors.

4. Low Maintenance With No Grout Scrubbing

LVT looks like it has grout lines, but it doesn’t. The surface is continuous and non-porous so you don’t have to clean any grout lines. That’s right—no scrubbing, no sealing and no mildew concerns. Keep your flooring in top shape with a simple sweep and mop.

5. Durable and Scratch Resistant

Each tile has a protective wear layer that keeps your flooring safe from scratches, scuffs and stains. Dropped objects won’t crack or scratch quality LVT either. The durability makes it ideal for busy homes, people with pets or vacation rental properties.

FAQs About Luxury Vinyl Tile in Santa Rosa Beach

How does luxury vinyl tile differ from luxury vinyl plank?

Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) looks like stone, marble, ceramic or concrete tiles and are available in square and rectangular formats. Meanwhile, luxury vinyl plank (LVP) resembles hardwood flooring. Both have tough wear layers and waterproof cores. The layered construction is nearly identical.

Although waterproof, LVT is not recommended for shower walls or areas with direct water spray. Use traditional tile and waterproofing in these spaces.

LVT is warmer and softer underfoot than ceramic or stone tile. It’s lighter and resilient. Additionally, embossed textures let it mimic the look and feel of its higher-end counterparts.

Regular sweeping or vacuuming takes care of dirt and debris. Damp mopping with pH-neutral cleaners takes care of deeper cleaning.
